- 5th January - A large crack is discovered in The Woolpack fireplace.
- 6th January - The subsidence discovered the day before means The Woolpack has to be closed and move to a new location.
- 9th January - Charity Dingle is born to Kathleen and Obadiah Dingle.
- 13th January - Sam and Sally Skilbeck, and their aunt Beattie Dowton are killed off-screen when their car is struck by a train on a level crossing.
- 19th January - Matt Skilbeck discovers his aunt and children have died.
- 20th January - The Woolpack moves to a premises. The building was slightly derelict.
- 2nd February - Martin Gimbel holds Rosemary Kendall prisoner inside Emmerdale Farm, but she is rescued by Mel Openshaw.
- 16th February - Fred Farrar is arrested for poaching.
- 17th February - Will Croft decides not to continue the prosecution of Fred Farrar.
- 23rd February - Final appearance of Lena Dawkins.
- 1st March - Fred hands himself into the police.

- 8th March - Heather Bannerman accidentally crashes her car into the wall outside Emmerdale Farm.
- 22nd March - During an argument, Steve Bannerman nearly hits Heather but is stopped by Rosemary Kendall.
- 23rd March - Final appearance of Martin Gimbel.
- 29th March - Jack Sugden returns to the village for a visit. Joe Sugden's ex-wife arrives with Jack. (First appearance of Jack Sugden since 1973 and first appearance of Christine Sugden since 1974)
- 9th April - Rhona Goskirk is born.
- 13th April - Christine decides to leave Beckindale for good. Rosemary moves back to live with her mother. (Final appearance of the characters)
- 27th April - Tad Ryland's wife Bella dies from cancer off-screen.
