- 9th January - First appearance of Maurice Westrop.
- 23rd January - Jessie Renfrew collapses and is rushed to hospital.
- 8th February - Tober More slashes the tyres on Neil Batt's van.
- 15th February - Martha More is arrested for assaulting a police officer.
- 6th March - Sam Pearson breaks Arthur Braithwaite's fingers by slamming them in a car door.
- 22nd March - Kitty Ferris crashes a tractor and hits her head on the steering wheel.
- 3rd April - Wendy Hotson is raped after the farmer's social night.
- 5th April - Smarty Garret and Poor Ocker get revenge on NY Estates by starting a fire.
- 12th April - Smarty Garret and Poor Ocker set Kimber Barn alight. Later, a hitchhiker, fitting the description of Wendy's rapist, is hit by a motorcycle driven by Ocker and Smarty.
- 17th April - The hitchhiker dies from his injuries. Ocker is told he has a vascular condition.
- 19th April - Smarty Garret and Poor Ocker are arrested for burning down Kimber Barn.
- 24th April - Poor Ocker receives a suspended sentence for his role in the burning down of Kimber Barn. However, Smarty Garret receives a prison sentence. Clive Hinton is released from prison in Athens.
- 1st May - Joe Sugden catches Phil Thatcher on Emmerdale Farm land with guns. Joe goes to check his gun, but they struggle and Phil is shot in the leg.
- 15th May - Seth and Meg Armstrong are shocked when their son Jimmy returns out of the blue - with his wife.
- 24th May - Susan Armstrong discovers she is pregnant.
- 31st May - Seth Armstrong leaves the village with his Jimmy. (Last appearance of Seth Armstrong until 1980)
- 26th June - Matt Skilbeck finds Maurice Westrop's daughter drunkenly slumped over her steering wheel on her way into the village. (First appearance of Judy Westrop)
- 5th July - Dolly Skilbeck discovers she is pregnant. (Last appearance of Dolly Skilbeck until 1980)
- July - Judy Westrop is diagnosed with acute depression.
- 15th July - Charlotte Cairns is born to Anthony and Rebecca Cairns.
- 8th November - Max King is born to Tom and Mary King
- 15th November - Maya Stepney is born.
