27th January - Sandie Merrick reveals her pregnancy to Annie Sugden.
3rd February - Jackie Merrick beats up Andy Longthorn when he discovers Andy is the father of Sandie Merrick's baby. Sandie tells her mother she is pregnant. Pat pleads with her to have an abortion.

12th April - A group of rustlers try to steal cattle from Emmerdale Farm. Jack Sugden confronts them with a shotgun, but it is knocked out of his hands. One of them pins Jack to the ground, but he hits them in the head with a rock.
