Albert Oldroyd was the father of Andrew and Margaret Oldroyd, and the maternal grandfather of Jacob Sugden and his brother Edward Sugden.

Albert's wife died when his daughter Maggie was barely 2 years old and he never remarried. Despite this, Maggie, Albert and Andrew were a close-knit family until Andrew's death at some point prior to 1914. Albert was heavily affected by Andrew's death and his mood reflected this. Albert suffered a seizure which left him barely able to speak, and paralysed on one side. He died in his sleep in 1914, and was discovered by Maggie and their housekeeper Dot Colton. His funeral was held three days later.
