Amit Sharma is the younger brother of Rishi Sharma and the father of Suni and Nisha Sharma as well as the biological father of Jai Sharma who was adopted and raised by Rishi.
Biography[]
Pre-2023: Having Jai[]
In late 1974, Amit started an affair with one of his father’s employees, Georgia and she fell pregnant with his child. Amit refused to marry Georgia, which upset his mother who worried about the family image, so Amit’s older brother Rishi agreed to marry Georgia and raise her child. Then Amit returned to India to help his father run the business there. Amit’s son, Jai, was born in September 1975 and stayed in the UK to be raised by Rishi and Georgia.
At some point, Amit got married and had two children of his own. He had little contact with Rishi or Jai over the next couple of decades and never told anyone that he was Jai’s real father. Before his arrival in the village Amit’s wife died and he became distant from his son, though he and his daughter remained close.
2023 to 2024: Arrival in the village, bonding with Jai and exit[]
In July 2023, Amit found out that Jai knew Rishi wasn’t his biological father and Rishi was close to revealing the truth. Amit visited his brother to tell him to keep the secret but they ended up arguing and Amit pushed Rishi down the stairs, killing him. A panicked Amit then left the house and told no one that he had been in the village on that day to cover his tracks, so it was believed that Rishi’s death was an accident.
On 9th October 2023, Amit returned to the village after Jai told Suni that they were brothers. He tried to mitigate both his son’s anger and soon got Suni to forgive him, though Jai was still suspicious of him. He believed that Amit might have something to do with Rishi’s death but Amit got Suni to help convince Jai that he was innocent. However, Amit ended up telling Suni that he had spoken to Rishi on the day he died but promised that his brother’s death was an accident. Suni told his boyfriend, Nicky, what Amit said and Nicky confronted him, causing Amit to lose his temper and punch Nicky. After this, Nicky’s father, Caleb Miligan believed that Amit was a homophobe, so he and his nephew Nate Robinson attacked him as revenge. This began a feud between Caleb and Amit as they argued constantly about their son’s relationship.
In late November, Amit got a call telling him that Suni was in the hospital after being attacked on a night out with Nicky. He was grievously injured and had to stay in hospital which worried Amit. He found out the name of the man who had beaten his son and wanted to track him down. He told Caleb, whose son had also been attacked and they decided to go teach the guy a lesson but he was arrested before they had a chance. Suni recovered but was badly shaken by the incident and Amit tried to support him. He thanked Ethan Anderson for stopping the attack and ended his feud with Caleb.
Over the next few weeks, Amit grew closer with Jai as he was more like him that Suni was. Amit and Suni disagreed over his desire to be a chef instead of work in the family business. He started to bond with Jai’s family and got along well with his son Archie. On Christmas Day, Suni insisted that Amit join him at Jai’s house so he could spend time with his family and Amit agreed.
In January 2024, Amit found out that Hawksford Outdoor Pursuits where Jai worked was struggling and offered to invest. The owner, Gabby Thomas, was impressed by Amit’s business knowledge and took his investment, making his a partner in Hawksford. However, Jai was unhappy about this as he didn’t like Amit being his boss. Amit then began taking money out of the business to aid his own financial situation as he was badly in debt.
In March, Amit began meeting with a loan shark to get more money. She threatened him into paying back what he already owed and so decided to steal the takings from Hawksford. He volunteered to do the bank run and gave the business takings to the loan shark, before returning to Hawksford claiming to have been robbed. However, Jai caught onto his scheme and began working against him. On 28th March, Jai visited him at Holdgate Farm and started to ask questions about the robbery and Rishi’s death. Amit was surprised by this but kept lying to Jai, causing an argument. Amit tried to reason with Jain but he pushed Amit down the stairs. Amit broke his leg and Jai tortured him into confessing the truth about what happened to Rishi. He then locked Amit in the store room over night but he was found by Eric Pollard. Kai then blackmailed Amit into signing over his shares in HOP and forced him out of the village.
