Beckindale Forge (now the Vet's Surgery) was owned by Dale Properties and rented out to Frank Blakey, along with the joining cottage - Smithy Cottage. Frank originally bought the lease from Tommy Folkes. Beckindale Forge closed in 1974 when Frank left the area with his wife Janie Blakey. Frank's mother in law Dolly Harker held the keys and allowed traveller Dryden Hogben to stay at the forge. Dryden left the village in July 1974.

In March 1979, Arthur Braithwaite considered moving into the old forge. Whether this took place is unknown but by 1995 the forge was empty and was to be reused by Zoe Tate as a vets.
