Bill Jeffries was a vicar from Liverpool who came to Beckindale to help Donald Hinton with the youth club in May 1982. Donald noticed Bill was around the same age as his son Clive. Bill arrived on an expensive motorbike, impressing Jackie Merrick but not going down too well with the other villagers. He often clashed with Donald on specific beliefs; the church shouldn't be centre of Christianity and that always wearing a dog-collar was unnecessary. He recruited Jackie and his sister Sandie Merrick to assist him in making the youth club appeal to more youths. Thankfully Bill was not around for long as he returned to Liverpool shortly afterwards, but him and Hinton agreed to keep in touch.
