California is the most populous state in the United States and the third most extensive by area. The largest city in the states is Los Angeles which has also been mentioned in Emmerdale.

- In 1996, Chris Tate visited California for fertility treatment.
- In 2004, Rodney Blackstock plans a wine tasting experience in California.
- In 2005, Zoe Tate originally planned to take kids Joseph and Jean to California for a new life. After being accused of the attempted murder of Scott Windsor, and being acquitted, she eventually escaped to New Zealand.
- Kelly Windsor and son Elliot resided in Los Angeles, California until January 2016, when Kelly moved to take part in a reality show in Bolivia. Elliot moved back to the village to be with his father.
