Doctor Clare Scott took over as the local doctor of Beckindale from Doctor Maurice Grant who retired in May 1973. Amy Postlethwaite was happy to have a young doctor replace Dr. Grant. 30 year old Clare developed a friendship with Jack Sugden. Clare's boyfriend Simon Trent turned up in Beckindale, and proposed to her but she turned him down. In September 1973, Dr Scott was called to tend to Charlie Nelson who had severe indigestion.
In March 1976, Dr Scott tended to poacher Fred Farrar, with PC Will Croft present, who decided to drop the poaching charge against Fred. A short time later in March 1976, Dr Scott was absent so Dr Evans was sent to look after Heather Bannerman after a car crash. By 1977, Dr Scott had been replaced by Dr Jacobs.
