Denise Carter is the mother of Richie Carter.
Growing up, Richie didn't have the best relationship with Denise, nor her husband, his step-father, so he left home aged sixteen in about 1996. In November 2000, Denise visited Richie in hospital after he was injured in a barn fire at Melby Farm which claimed the life of his girlfriend, Sarah Sugden. Denise was shocked to learn that prior to the fire, her twenty-year-old son was living with Sarah, a forty-eight year old married mother.
