Mr "Derby" Eccles was a resident of Beckindale in the 1920s and 1930s. He lived behind The Old Woolpack. Derby once did some repairs to his cottage but one night the cottage fell in. This happened in about 1930. They lived next to the Mickin family.

Derby was 90 when he died.

In 1976, Sam Pearson mentioned Derby, and now he was nicknamed Derby due to his wife being Joan Eccles. Sam never mentioned Derby's real first name.
