DI Derek Carp first arrived in the village in May 2006 when he investigated Steph Forsythe's allegation that her brother, Terence Turner, was dead.
A month later, Terence's body was discovered in the foundations of the King's River showhome, which was destroyed following a gas explosion a few days earlier. Steph was taken in for questioning, but was released on bail. After uncovering further evidence that implicated Steph and her husband Adam, who had killed Terence, Carp, along with DS Gareth Anders, arrested Steph and charged her with Terence's murder.
He also investigated the death of Alice Dingle, who was stricken by cancer and requested her husband Sam to help her die.
He and Anders were present during Steph and Adam's trial in November 2006, in which the pair were sentenced to life imprisonment.
