Desmond "Des" Burtenshaw was a scrap dealer and an old friend of Frank Tate. Des drove the bus when the Emmerdale villagers went for a day trip to France. However the bus broke down in Leicestershire. A replacement bus was found but the trip to France was cancelled and the gang returned to Emmerdale.
