Dr Alex Mason was on duty at Hotten General Hospital in September 2017 when Liv Flaherty was rushed to hospital after drinking brandy Robert Sugden had spiked for his ex-father in law Lawrence White. Dr Mason took a shine to Liv's brother Aaron Dingle so after some meddling by Liv, Aaron and Alex swapped numbers. Aaron invited Alex over to his house and he ended up spending the night on the sofa. Aaron and Alex had little in common. Alex tried to kiss Aaron but Aaron pulled away as he was still hung up on his former partner Robert. Aaron apologised for giving Alex the wrong idea.
Aaron decided to give his relationship with Alex a go but on February 2018, Aaron starts to acknowledge his true feelings for Robert. After catching each other at a gay bar, Aaron decided to break up with Alex despite Aaron wanting everything to work.
