Plot[]

Part One[]

The car heading towards Aaron and John, carries three women, Becky, Lisa and Betsy. Inside, Lisa pleads with Becky, who is driving, to slow down. Becky briefly takes her eyes off the road and the two vehicles collide violently, sending Aaron and John's car spinning through the air before it lands upside down across one lane of the road. Becky's car skids to a halt diagonally, blocking the carriageway. Further along the same stretch of road, a drunken man, Carl, drives with his newly married sister Debbie in the passenger seat as she desperately urges him to stop. Elsewhere on the road, Cain and Moira continue their journey with Sarah and Jacob on the way to the airport, while Mackenzie and Charity begin to catch them up, with Charity frantically trying to stop Mackenzie as he sounds his horn in an attempt to get Cain to pull over. Approaching the scene from the opposite direction is a minibus carrying guests from Debbie's wedding. Inside Becky's car, Becky, Betsy and Lisa are unconscious. Lisa slowly comes round and sees the overturned vehicle containing Aaron and John ahead of them. As smoke swirls, John begins to stir. Another car arrives carrying Kit, a detective constable, and Carla, Lisa's estranged fiancée. Carla leaps out and runs towards Becky's car, screaming Lisa's name. As the minibus approaches, its driver, Billy, fails to see the crash ahead. Carla desperately tries to stop him as he narrowly avoids ploughing into Becky's car. Billy swerves sharply, causing the minibus to tip onto its side. Passengers are thrown about as smoke begins to fill the vehicle. Billy calls out, asking if everyone is all right. Moments later, Carl and Debbie arrive at the scene still arguing. Distracted and drunk, Carl fails to notice the overturned minibus and crashes into the driver's side, sending it careering into Becky's car and knocking Lisa unconscious again. Carla races past the minibus as flames begin to spread beneath it. Carl begins to regain consciousness while Debbie remains unconscious. Further back, Cain brakes sharply as Moira shouts at him to stop upon seeing the crash ahead. Cain manages to avoid further collisions, but his sudden stop forces Mackenzie to swerve, crashing into a rusty farm vehicle at the side of the road. Seeing the impact, Sarah and Jacob rush to Charity and Mackenzie's car, where both lie unconscious. Carla screams for Kit as she desperately tries to reach Lisa. Passengers from the minibus begin to come round, some injured. One of them, Theo, calls out for Asha, a trainee paramedic, who begins to panic. Kit calls for ambulances as he and Carla continue trying to reach Lisa. Carl checks Debbie's pulse before removing her seatbelt and dragging her into the driver's seat. He kisses her on the cheek before staggering away from the wreckage and collapsing at the roadside. Carla reassures Betsy as she starts to regain consciousness. With Aaron still trapped upside down in the car, John quietly slips away unnoticed into nearby bushes, taking the shotgun with him.

Part Two[]

Asha begins assessing the casualties. At Theo's insistence, she checks another of the guests, Todd, and confirms he is breathing. She then checks Debbie and finds her conscious in the driver's seat. Cain notices Aaron still trapped in the wreckage as he starts to come round and tries to move. Asha rushes over. Not wanting to alert Cain to John's return, Aaron sends him away to help others before telling Asha and Kit that John was in the car and has escaped with a gun. Asha finds Carl collapsed face down at the roadside with no pulse and immediately begins chest compressions. Kit stops oncoming traffic, including Jai, who is on his way to Manchester for the depot run, and radios in the sighting of John. In a van behind Jai, a young woman with her wrists and ankles bound pleads with a hooded driver. Cain smashes Charity and Mackenzie's car window to reach them. Charity begins to come round, but Mackenzie remains unconscious. Jacob spots a piece of metal embedded in Mackenzie's arm and instructs Charity to apply pressure while he looks for something to stem the bleeding. Wedding guest Cassie notes that several guests are wearing ties. Todd briefly regains consciousness, panicking when he sees Theo above him, before calling out Billy's name and blacking out again. Becky comes round as Betsy panics about Lisa. Carla and wedding guest James help pull Becky from the wreckage. Jacob obtains a tie from wedding guest Kevin to use as a makeshift tourniquet, but is momentarily stopped by another guest, David, who is lying on the ground with his wife Shona, terrified that she cannot feel her baby move. Kevin and Abi search for Debbie and find Asha working on Carl. Asha explains that Debbie was driving the car. David and Shona are relieved when Jacob confirms he can feel the baby kick. Jacob rushes back to Mackenzie. With the minibus now ablaze and Billy trapped by his seatbelt, Theo reaches him and hears him praying. Billy manages to unclip himself and Theo prevents him from falling. Grateful for his assistance, Billy comments that there is good in Theo but, hearing this comment, he clips Billy back in before scurrying away, leaving him trapped. Joe arrives at the scene with Robert just as Billy frees himself again and falls to the floor inside the burning minibus. Flames surround him as he finishes his prayers. Moments later, the minibus explodes, knocking Joe to the ground. Debbie wanders towards the wreckage in shock as Kevin and Abi reach her. Todd, now conscious, spots Theo walking away and asks where Billy is. Theo breaks down as he explains that Billy was trapped.

Part Three[]

Robert finds Aaron sitting against the wreckage after being freed. Aaron admits he knocked Robert out to stop him killing John and sending himself back to prison. He confirms that John escaped with the gun but that police are now searching for him. Chas and Liam return from the murder mystery event in Weatherfield, driven by Street Cars driver, Tim. They approach the crash scene as ambulances speed past, prompting Liam to get out and help, with Chas following. In the back of the van being driven by the hooded driver, the bound young woman begins freeing herself as the man is no longer with her. Aaron proposes to Robert, suggesting they marry once his divorce from John is finalised. Robert accepts. From across the road, John watches them as he aims the shotgun in their direction. He is disrupted when the hooded van driver approaches Joe a short distance away from him. As Joe stirs, the man walks away and Kit arrives to assist. Jacob secures Kevin's tie around Mackenzie's arm as he begins to regain consciousness. He spots Sarah and goes to talk to her but Charity silently urges him to stop talking. Chas finds them but quickly leaves again when Sarah mentions Aaron has also been involved. A wedding guest, Tracy, notices flames spreading towards Lisa's car. Those able rush to move it to safety. Lisa, now conscious and using an oxygen mask, is helped as Carla grips her hand through the window. The fire brigade arrive and take control as casualties are prepared for transport to hospital. Becky tells a shocked Betsy that she needs to leave. In the ambulance, Lisa asks for a goodbye. As Becky kisses her, Lisa handcuffs her and arrests her for misconduct in public office, fraud, theft, ABH and kidnapping. Carla comforts Betsy. As Aaron is taken away by ambulance, Robert promises to meet him at the hospital. Aaron warns him not to go after John, but Robert finds Cain and admits John is nearby. After hesitating, Cain joins the search. In the woods, John ambushes Kit, knocking him unconscious, before confronting Robert. During their struggle, shots are fired and Cain is hit in the stomach, collapsing to the ground.

Part Four[]

John limps away as Robert rushes to Cain. Kit recovers and gives chase, with Cain insisting on following. Wedding guest Steve is startled to see Jai stopped in traffic, briefly mistaking him for someone he used to work with. As Jai retrieves a jacket from the back of his van, he is unaware it is covering Ray's body. The hooded van driver discovers the young woman has escaped. She runs through the woods, hands still bound, until Kit spots her and shouts for her to stop. She collides with a tree. At Hotten General, Kevin confronts Carl, accusing him of letting Debbie take the blame for driving. Carl is too woozy to respond. Making their way to their partners, Charity and Carla share a lift, both determined not to ruin things with them. As Kit approaches the injured woman, she recoils in fear. He notices a tree tattoo on her arm, matching one on Shona's back. At the hospital, Eric complains to Jacob on the phone about parking charges before trying to help the relative of one of the wedding guests, Ken, retrieve an item from a vending machine. Charity intervenes to help before noticing the pregnant Shona and sits with her as her waters break. David rushes for help. Moira waits with Cain, who suggests a holiday when he is out of hospital, wanting them to finally take their honeymoon. Moira grows suspicious and presses him about John. David collapses with a seizure, leaving Shona distraught. The hooded driver looks in on Joe in the hospital. He makes a phone call to say the young woman has escaped before declaring the contract off as there is something he needs to do. His face, visible in the hospital light, reveals it is Graham. Joe appears to spot him as he leaves. Sarah and Charity sit with an unconscious Mackenzie. Husband Ronnie arrives to comfort Debbie. Todd comforts Billy's distraught daughter Summer. Cain tells Moira that John escaped. In the woods, John lies lifeless at Victoria's feet. Kevin walks away as Carl's condition deteriorates. Cain is informed that doctors have discovered a sizeable mass that could be cancer and he will need to undergo more tests. The following morning, with Liam returning with one of the ambulances, Tim drives Chas back to Emmerdale.

Notes[]

Production[]

  • ITV announced the plans for a crossover episode between Emmerdale and Coronation Street as the two shows joined forces to mark the soaps' new scheduling pattern that would come into force in January 2026 on 13th May 2025. Production was announced as having begun on 3rd October 2025 with a trailer for the episode being released on 1st December. On the 11th December, ITV confirmed that the crossover episode would broadcast on 5th January 2026 at 8.00pm.
  • The crash sequences were filmed on a private road in Harrogate, hired from a local farmer and previously used by Emmerdale. The driving footage was shot on Woodhead Pass and Snake Pass in the Pennines. Production involved twelve night shoots at the crash site, two days and nights filming in the Pennines, five days at MediaCityUK Studios capturing dialogue and reaction scenes inside the cars and minibus, and a further three days at the ITV Leeds Studio on the Hotten General Hospital set. Night shoots ran from 6pm to 6am, with filming beginning in September 2025.
  • This episode was presented in a 2:1 aspect ratio, in a change to the programme's usual 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • The episode was filmed on ARRI Alexa 35 cameras, rather than the production's usual equipment.
  • There is no opening title sequence or specially stylised break bumpers throughout the episode, instead the Corriedale logo simply appears over the respective scenes. The closing title sequence uses 'Side' by Travis to play out the episode.
  • Unknown instrumental incidental music plays during the lead-up to and following the first car crash, in the scene following the minibus tipping over, as John Sugden sneaks away from the crash scene; as Asha Alahan tends to the casualties on the road; as Todd Grimshaw comes round to find Theo Silverton sitting beside him; the scene leading up to the minibus explosion and the scene containing the crash victims reactions; during Aaron Dingle's proposal to Robert Sugden, John pointing the gun at the pair and the hooded van driver looking at Joe Tate lying in the road; the ambulance crew arriving on the scene; the group teaming up to move the car containing Lisa Swain out of the fire path; the scene with the hooded van driver returning his van and discovering the young woman missing as she runs through the woods and later being trying to defend herself against Kit Green; and the hospital scenes towards the end of the episode and where John lies dead in the woods.
  • Four specially filmed scenes were put to a viewer vote to see two characters of their choice interact in the episode. The choices were between Charity Dingle and Carla Connor; Tracy McDonald and Ross Barton; Nicola King and Roy Cropper and Sam Dingle and Kirk Sutherland. Voting opened on 1st January 2026 via both the Coronation Street and Emmerdale Instagram page and closed fifteen minutes before the broadcast of the episode, at 7.45pm on 5th January 2026. The winning scene was between Charity and Dingle and Carla Connor, though the scene between Sam Dingle and Kirk Sutherland was broadcast on the YouTube version of Corriedale: Backstage Pass. The characters of Ross Barton, Nicola King, Sam Dingle, Roy Cropper and Kirk Sutherland did otherwise not appear in the episode.
  • The scene where Steve McDonald briefly mistakes Jai Sharma for someone he used to work with is a nod to Christopher Bisson previously appearing on Coronation Street between 1999 and 2002 as Vikram Desai. Bisson reportedly pleaded with producers to let him appear in the episode purely so this moment could be captured.
