Biff apologises to Linda for his behaviour and admits that disappearing wasn't a good idea but says that it had given him time to reflect on his situation. He says that if he did have the disease they would have to handle it but when Linda replies that she’s pleased he’s finally facing up to things, Biff tells her that she has to face up to things too and determinedly tells her that the baby would have to have the test too, with the possibility of a termination if its positive. Linda was appalled and tells him that the very idea that he could even think about ending their baby's life disgusts her before storming off. Later, she tells Zoe about her pregnancy, but doesn't share in Zoe's delight about it and requests a chat with her in the Woolpack at lunchtime. Betty’s annoyed at the mess in the bar from the previous evening and is horrified when Alan tells her that the Woolpackers would be playing regular gigs at the pub because it has been a huge success. She refuses to clean the bar and quits. Alan is disappointed about Betty's departure as she was so reliable and wonders to Terry if there is any way to persuade her to return. Alan's suggests doing a little remedial tidying up but Terry finds the notion of cleaning up for the cleaner amusing and strange. When Betty returns home, she finds a dishevelled Paddy on her doorstep who asks her if he could have a bath at her house as he spent the night in the Dingles’ pig-pen. She’s mortified that he still carries a torch for Mandy, but he tells her that the torch had been well and truly extinguished. In the pub, Mandy complains to Charlie about Paddy's remarks, but Charlie’s amused by them. Paddy tries to apologise but Mandy tells him that she has nothing to say to him. He’s persistent, telling her that he was only having a laugh and hadn't meant it to go so far. He says that he only came back to Emmerdale because he really cared about her but before she could reply, Butch and Marlon interrupt and tells him to stay away from Mandy and leave the village. When there’s no answer from Mandy to Paddy's inquiry as to whether she would like to see him again, he leaves but Mandy rushes after him. At the bus stop, she asks him when he’ll back and the two kiss before Paddy boards the bus, promising he’ll return. Sophie arrives at Home Farm with James to find the place locked up and they return to Zoe's cottage to await her arrival. When Zoe arrives home, she’s determined that she should go straight to Home Farm and tell her father how things went on the trip but Sophie tries unsuccessfully to stay so they can have a chat. Outside Home Farm in the car, Sophie’s upset at Zoe's apparent rejection of her and questions her about it. Zoe makes it clear that she doesn't want to ruin Sophie's life as Emmerdale is a very hard place to come out in and also cites her father's displeasure the idea of a relationship, but Sophie’s unwilling to accept the excuses. When Zoe and Sophie enter Home Farm, Zoe finds Frank lying on the floor and shouts to Sophie to call an ambulance. Frank utters Kim's name and slips away. Kathy decides to go and visit Nick to find out the truth about Karen and is determined that she won't let Alice go anywhere near her. On her return, she tells Dee that everything Karen had said was true and regardless of what happened to Nick, she would be Alice's stepmother and it was Nick's wish for Alice to live with Karen. Kathy tells Dee that she went been to see her solicitor and admits that even though she was appalled at the prospect of taking her own brother to court over his daughter, she felt she had to do it because Alice was all she had left. Emma continues to be taunted by the bullies but Dean and Will leap to her defence. Andy is worried about returning to school and tries to feign illness, but Sarah sees straight through it and both her and Jack were adamant that he goes. Jack’s worried about Andy having to cope with Viv and Donna on his back and concedes to Sarah and Rachel in the Woolpack that he’s worried that Andy is too much to handle, but Sarah is determined that they are not going to give up on him. Rachel tells Charlie what she thinks of her and suggests that the only reason why she threw herself at Steve the previous evening was because she was after his money. Charlie, however, retorts that Rachel is only jealous. Linda discovers what had happened to Frank when she goes to find Zoe at Home Farm and asks her why she had stood her up at lunchtime. She announces Frank's death in the Woolpack, a piece of news that gains mixed reaction. Alan is shocked and saddened, but Jack is delighted. Sophie blames herself for not trying the back door that morning as it had been unlocked but Zoe said that she wasn't to know that. As Frank is taken away, a distraught Zoe’s angry that even after everything Kim had done to him, hers was the last name on his lips. She is incredulous when DI Cooke arrives. Zoe berates Cooke, accusing her of causing her father's death by hounding him and putting him in prison. When Cooke suggests it may have been suicide, Zoe’s irate that she would even dare suggest it and despite her protestations that she was only doing her job, Zoe tells her that Frank was innocent and hopes that Cooke has sleepless nights for the rest of her life. Zoe’s worried that she doesn't know what to feel and Sophie worries that she shouldn't be trying to organise everything because she’s still in shock. Later, when Tony comes to collect the deposit they paid for the chalet he puts his foot in it by asking what her excuse is for being bad tempered. That evening, Sophie tells Zoe that they would look after James together, but Zoe's very upset at the thought that Frank had been lying alone in pain for so long and breaks down in tears.
After last night's performance by the re-formed Woolpackers, Betty is less than impressed with the state of the pub. Biff tells Linda how worried he is about his upcoming tests. Kathy has got herself all worked up at the thought of losing Alice to Nick's new fiancee but Eric is skeptical. After having to watch newcomer Charlie getting to grips with strapping Steve last night, jealous Rachel has some strong words for her. At Home Farm, Zoe has returned to make the heart-breaking discovery that Frank has collapsed. She finds Frank lying on the floor and kneels down by his side. Frank manages to utter Kim's name before passing away.

Plot

Biff apologises to Linda for his behaviour and admits that disappearing wasn't a good idea but says that it had given him time to reflect on his situation. He says that if he did have the disease they would have to handle it but when Linda replies that she’s pleased he’s finally facing up to things, Biff tells her that she has to face up to things too and determinedly tells her that the baby would have to have the test too, with the possibility of a termination if its positive. When Betty returns home, she finds a dishevelled Paddy on her doorstep who asks her if he could have a bath at her house as he spent the night in the Dingles’ pig-pen.
