Plot[]
In the Woolpack, life is going on as normal when they hear a loud bang outside. Bernice, Tricia, Paddy and Eric rush out to see what has happened; Paddy rushes over to try and help out while Tricia goes hysterical with worry. Paddy manages to pull off the front windscreen, but the force of it causes him to break his wrist. Alan staggers out unharmed but in shock, with a relieved Tricia and Eric helping him into the Woolpack. Meanwhile, Emily is still in a daze at the roadside, having said goodbye to Butch moments before. Betty is about to comfort her when she learns that Seth is also on the bus. Angie arrives, attempting to take control of the situation by calling the paramedics and fire services, before discovering from Donna that Marc is on the bus. The rescue operation is soon under way, and a young man arrives to help out, although the paramedics try to stop him. Back in the Woolpack, Alan is still in a daze and can't remember what has happened. The police breathlyse him, and try to establish what has happened, but he's too stressed to remember. Viv tries to draw attention to herself by saying that she could have died, but Diane reminds her that she is extremely lucky compared to the victims and their families. Outside, the tension grows. Angie frets over Marc, but he is eventually pulled out with serious neck injuries. Seth is also freed from the wreckage. He is having problems with his legs. Meanwhile, Chris arrives and is extremely distressed to learn that Joseph is on the bus and rings Zoe. So far, Seth and Marc are safe, but Joseph, Frankie, Kathy, Victoria, Sarah, Butch and are still unaccounted for. A body is brought out, identified by Eric as a councillor named Bob Simmons. Pete's body is also recovered. As Chris and Zoe watch his body being zipped up, Frankie and Joseph appear, safe and sound. The Tates are overwhelmed with relief, but Frankie is devastated to learn that Pete is dead. In the pub, the young man is hailed as a hero by Viv and Eric and is introduced as Adam, the new vet. Back on the bus, the rescue services are trying to rescue more people without the aid of any equipment. Zak and Lisa turn up, horrified to learn that Butch was on there (particularly Zak, who had still not made it up with him). Jack and the boys arrive to try and get news of Sarah and Victoria - eventually Sarah is brought out, with a fractured leg and screeching hysterically about Victoria, who was sitting with Kathy. Chris is shocked to learn that Kathy was on there, especially as their last conversation hadn't been particularly pleasant. As dusk falls, the rescue continues, with Butch, Victoria and Kathy still unaccounted for.
