Plot[]
Part One: Eric and Gloria have enjoyed spending the night together. Gloria discovers it is Eric's 56th birthday and plans to buy him a present. Viv continues to look forward to her honeymoon with Bob. The factory order is almost ready for packing. Bernice makes plans to meet Carlos while Ashley is at a parish meeting. Gloria marks Eric's birthday by booking a special meal at Chez Marlon. Marlon tries to warn Gloria that Eric shouldn't be trusted but she defends him. Carol is determined to uncover the cause of the smell at the B&B and forces Terry, Alan and Rodney to help her. Cynthia invites Eric to the pub for dinner for some celebratory drinks with the intention of getting him to pay for them. Bernice and Carlos are awkward about conducting their affair in Ashley's bed but proceed anyway. Viv receives a visit from salesman Roger Crosby of Lovely Lady trying to sell her a hosiery line. It soon becomes apparent that he is an old friend of Bob's. They offer him a room for the night but Viv becomes suspicious when Roger begins to talk of skeletons in Bob's closet and Bob is quick to try and offload him on the B&B instead.
Part Two: The factory girls drink with Eric in the pub. Zoe arranges to meet Charity later in the evening. Gloria is in Hotten looking for a present for Eric. She stops at a pawnshop window and notices the necklace that nearly drove her to a suicide attempt being sold for £40. Eric is thrilled as the factory order is complete and sends the workers home early on full pay. Roger, Bob and Terry socialise in the pub. Bob desperately tries to shut down Roger's stories about him as he fills Terry in on some of Bob's past escapades - including that he once married a showgirl in Las Vegas. Terry can't believe what he's hearing. Paddy and Marlon worry that things seem to be getting more serious between Eric and Gloria. Zoe is amused when Charity tells Chris she has plans for the evening when he wants to spend time with her. Eric arrives at Chez Marlon for his birthday dinner with Gloria. She hands over his present - the necklace complete with the £40 price tag still attached. Bernice and Carlos are guilty as Ashley arrives back from his parish meeting. Terry and Bob try to keep a drunk Roger away from Viv through fear of what stories he might share with her. Gloria confronts Eric over the necklace, saying she knows it's the same one that she paid him £500 to replace and accuses him of stealing from her. Eric tries to reason he was just trying to impress her and that he didn't intend to hurt her. Gloria believes she has been wrong not to listen to the villagers advice about getting involved with him and walks out saying she can't trust him.
