Plot

Part One: Gloria continues to be frosty with Eric and decides not to join him at the factory. Bernice receives an invite to Sorrento from her cousin. Ashley is thrilled, she is less so. Viv continues to question Bob over Roger's insinuations about his past. He dashes off on business. Rodney invites Nicola, Bernice, Ashley and Carlos to Chez Marlon for a meal to celebrate his new business venture. He also invites Diane but she declines. The factory staff notice that Eric is in a particularly grumpy mood. Bob confronts a hungover Roger and warns him against shouting his mouth off otherwise he'll tip-off his new employer of how much he enjoys a drink. Carol is suspicious as she witnesses their conversation. Bernice and Carlos are uncomfortable ahead of attending the meal with Ashley and Nicola both attending as well. Viv realises Bob has left his briefcase behind. Bob is keen to get Roger out of the village and practically runs him out of the B&B. Carol is gleeful when Terry shares some of the gossip about Bob with her.

Part Two: Nicola invites Ed and Emily to the meal at Chez Marlon. Viv's suspicions continue to grow over Bob as she wonders why he's away so often. Eric finds Gloria in the Woolpack. She has been shopping in Hotten. He complains to her about the day he's had with the factory staff, saying he can't manage without her. She agrees to think about returning. Viv can't resist temptation any longer and breaks into Bob's briefcase and snoops around. She finds an envelope addressed to Mr and Mrs Hope in Chesterfield. Bernice and Carlos are uneasy as they sit next to each other at the meal surrounded by Ashley and Nicola at either side. Viv quizzes Terry for the truth about Bob. Terry reluctantly admits that he's discovered Bob used to be married to a Las Vegas showgirl. Viv is puzzled why Bob's not told her. Carol takes delight in winding her up by entertaining the idea that she may be married to a bigamist. Viv leaves in tatters. Terry lays into Carol for being spiteful and tells her she should be ashamed of herself. Carlos is disappointed to hear that Bernice and Ashley may be going to Sorrento for a week. Feeling guilty, Carol goes to apologise to Viv. She offers to go to visit Mr and Mrs Hope in Chesterfield with her in the morning.

• Bernice Thomas refers to receiving an invitation to Sorrento from her cousin, Paul. It is likely that Paul is an early reference to Paul Lambert who, when introduced three years later, would be established as Bernice's half-brother.
