Plot

After crashing their car, Ashley is left unconscious and critically injured, with one leg trapped and no feeling in the other, while Louise is awake and left with only minor injuries. Simon and Nicola drive past but don't see the crashed vehicle, however Louise's cries are eventually heard by Paddy, who is out on a call, and he rushes over to help. Emily and Laurel and the emergency services arrive. Emily and Laurel are sickened to overhear a paramedic stating that Ashley's trapped leg may have to be amputated. Louise is rescued and is tended to in the ambulance, while Laurel goes over to the car and tries to keep Ashley conscious while the fire brigade cut the roof off the car. Over in the WoolpackTricia is getting ready to leave the village and Diane gives her a letter from Marlon. Tricia leaves and goes to the bus stop. However the bus doesn't turn up, so Tricia takes cover in a phone box and calls for a taxi, using the time to read Marlon's letter. As Tricia reads through the letter, she finally realises how much Marlon loves her and returns to the Woolpack. However, while she goes to pick up the pages of the letter after they blew out of her hand, disaster strikes when a nearby tree is struck by lightning, making Tricia stumble back, while another bolt hits the roof, causing a window to collapse down on her and sending the chimney to fall through the ceiling and into the packed pub. The pub is evacuated and Diane and Marlon discover Tricia lying under the rubble. The emergency services are called and the rubble on top of Tricia is removed by the paramedics, with help from Scott and Syd. Tricia is taken to a helicopter in a nearby field and is then airlifted to hospital. Marlon follows suit in Diane's car and him, Steph and Alan arrive at the hospital, where the doctor informs them that Tricia, who is currently in theatre, has sustained massive internal injuries and is in a critical condition. Meanwhile, Donna's 18th birthday party is in full swing at the Woolpack. Bob presents her with a gift - a car. However, shortly after going back inside after Donna gives it a little test, the pub's sign blows off its hinges and dents the roof. Elsewhere, Rodney and Danny go to the Dingles for cover, where they are having a New Year's celebration and on the farm, Jack and Andy try desperately to get their animals to safety, while inside, Katie tends to Robert's cut hand in a passionate clinch.
