Plot
Annie looks back at the events leading up to Christmas. Jack and Pat have announced their engagement, but Pat is still on edge. Has Tom's arrival in the village anything to do with her feelings of unease?

- First appearance of Tom Merrick since 2nd April 1981.
- Due to an ITV strike in November and December 1981, this was the first episode to be broadcast since 5th November 1981. Episodes 697-702 were produced but never broadcast and when the programme returned with this episode, no explanation was given to cover the happenings in the village in the episodes not broadcast.
