Cara Robinson is the mother of Nate Robinson, and the ex-girlfriend of Cain Dingle.
In the 1990s, Cara was working at a pub when she met Cain Dingle who she started dating. However, Cain's dad Shadrach Dingle was not happy with the relationship and even went as far as showing up at her mum's shouting abuse and threatening to burn their house down if she didn't leave Cain alone. Cain's mother Faith, heard what happened and wanted to calm the situation but was shocked when she learned Cara was pregnant with Cain's baby. Knowing she couldn't reason with Shadrach who never would have accepted his son fathering a mixed race baby, Faith convinced Cara that staying and raising the baby with Cain wasn't an option and thus she left without Cain ever knowing she was pregnant.
In April 1991, Cara gave birth to their son, Nate and she went on to make numerous attempts to get in contact with Cain about their son, but never received a reply. Unbeknownst to her, Faith was actually intercepting all of her correspondences and kept them from Cain. As a result, Nate grew up resenting his father who he thought willfully abandoned them and continued to ignore them.
In 2019, Nate came to the village of Emmerdale to get revenge for what he thought Cain had done to him and Cara, by having an affair with his current wife, Moira Dingle. However, by October, he found out the truth that Cain never knew of his existence and wanted to get to know his extended family. Moira, however, was furious as her affair with Nate had ruined her marriage and she blamed Nate for ruining her life. Cara herself first turned up in the village in January 2020 after Moira contacted her in order to get back at Nate. Cara was disappointed to hear what her son had done to Moira and that he'd reached out to Cain behind her back.
In February 2020, Cara was furious when she found out Nate had been shot at Moira's farm. Cain and Moira claimed he'd been shot by rustlers at the farm but Cara was convinced that Cain was responsible. However, Nate woke up and confirmed Cain and Moira's story the following day. Cara decided to move in with Nate at Wylies Farm which he initially protested but after she talked things through with Cain and they decided to call a truce, he welcomed her to stay as long as she stopped interfering.
