Frankie Smith is the ex-girlfriend of Zoe Tate and a former lorry driver for Tate Haulage.
Biography[]
1999: Meeting Zoe Tate[]
Frankie was working for Reynolds Haulage when her boss Sean Reynolds and Chris Tate decided to merge their companies in April 1999 as Tate Haulage. Zoe Tate first saw Frankie at a Tate Haulage's launch party and immediately became smitten with her. Zoe then begun spending more time at the Tate Haulage office in hopes of seeing Frankie again although Frankie remained mostly disinterested in her. Zoe then invited Frankie and all the other drivers to her birthday party and was disappointed when Frankie brought her girlfriend Maggie.
In May 1999, Frankie was fired by Chris after being accused of breaking one of Stella Jones' vases during a job by Eric Pollard. However, Zoe believed that Frankie was innocent and that Chris had been harsh on her due to her sexuality so she worked to prove Eric had set her up and got her job back. As a way of thanking her, Frankie invited Zoe out for a drink but brought Maggie along. Maggie warned Frankie that Zoe was clearly interested in her but Frankie assured her that she had no interest in Zoe. A few weeks later, Frankie accompanied Zoe on an emergency call-out to the Sugdens' farm and after witnessing Zoe successfully bring life to a newly born calf, Frankie kissed her. However, afterwards Frankie told Zoe it meant nothing and that she still wanted to be with Maggie.
Frankie stated taking an interest in Zoe when she started to play hard to get and Maggie eventually picked up on their closeness making their relationship slightly rocky. In August Frankie confided in Zoe that she and Maggie needed to spend some time together to sort things up after which Zoe set it up for Frankie to go on a Tate Haulage trip it Eastern Europe in hopes of splitting her and Maggie up. While Frankie was away Maggie realized Zoe was behind the trip and called Frankie to tell her. Frankie got so upset that she ended up drinking and got arrested for drunk driving in Germany. After getting out Frankie spent some time working in Germany and realised she no longer wanted to be with Maggie.
2000-2001: Return[]
Frankie returns
In January 2000, Frankie returned to Emmerdale and confronted Zoe at Home Farm for what she had done but the two ended up talking and reconnected. Zoe asked Frankie to give their relationship a try and although Frankie initially turned her down, she soon changed her mind and began staying with Zoe at Home Farm. Not wanting to sponge of Zoe, Frankie soon got a job as a cleaner at The Woolpack.
Frankie's friend Pete Collins was killed in a bus crash in March 2000, in which a Tate Haulage lorry collided with a minibus. Frankie felt that the Tates didn't care that people had died, putting her relationship with Zoe on the rocks. However, Zoe showed her that she does care but she also cares about her business and Frankie forgives her.
In October 2000, Jason Kirk and Joe Fisher asked Frankie to marry Joe so that Australian Joe could stay in the country. However, Frankie turned them down explaining she was already married to an American named David. Frankie and Zoe broke up in November 2000 after Zoe realised she no longer had feelings Frankie and she eventually left the village in January 2001.
