Granny Hopwood was the mother of Billy Hopwood, and grandmother of Andy Sugden and Darren Eden.
Granny Hopwood reluctantly took guardianship of Andy for much of his childhood as Billy was serving time in Strangeways Prison. Granny Hopwood died in August 1996 of a heart attack, at which Andy went to live with the Sugdens, who later adopted him.
