Hannah Elizabeth Pearson (nee Gough) was the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Gough, as well as the younger sister of James Gough. Hannah Elizabeth married Matthew Pearson in 1800, however Hannah's parents died from smallpox in 1801. Lucy Briggs (later James's wife) was accused of starving them, with the villagers noticing Hannah's anger towards Lucy. When Lucy dies after drinking a herbal tea made by Hannah, Hannah is accused of murder. She also discovers she is pregnant, and gives birth to her and Matthew's son Jeremiah in 1803, and she is later hanged after being found guilty of murder.
