Jason Kirk arrived on his cousin Paddy's doorstep in December 1999 after his parents had thrown him out after he had told them he was gay. Paddy had told Jason to keep this a secret as Paddy's then-in-laws, the Dingles, wouldn't take it well. Jason had a row with a Dingle member, young hardman Cain Dingle and Cain assaulted him.
Jason later shared a single impromptu kiss with Gavin Ferris, who was engaged to Bernice Blackstock. They were caught mid-embrace in a bedroom at the Woolpack by Bernice and Tricia Stokes.
Jason has many one night stands, but falls for Joe, an Australian on a temporary visa. Besotted, the only way to keep Joe in the country was for Joe to marry a woman. Joe married Tricia Stokes much to the chagrin of her boyfriend, Marlon, and her Grandfather Alan Turner.
Jason discovers a woman in labour at the side of the road, and has to help her as the ambulance wouldn't arrive in time. With some help with the 999 operator, Jason helps Latisha give birth to a healthy boy she names Kirk, as a thank you to Jason. When Latisha arrives in the village, everyone is surprised that Jason managed to help with a birth.
Jason accepts a new job and moves to Leeds on 31st January 2002, and eventually settles in Portugal, but returns to the village briefly in December 2002 to offer Latisha and her family jobs and a new start with him. Latisha, Cynthia and Kirk agree and leave with Jason a few days later. They are joined by Danny in 2006.
In Episode 9209 (18th November 2021), Bernice mentions Jason and references back when she caught him with her boyfriend, Gavin in December 1999.
