Jean Tate Sr. was the first wife of Frank Tate and mother of Chris and Zoe Tate.
Jean and Frank married in 1962 and the following year they welcomed their son, Chris. Five years later, Frank and Jean had a daughter Zoe. In 1982, Jean was diagnosed with liver cancer. By late-1984, a dying Jean had had enough and asked her doctor to help her end her life. The doctor refused so Jean asked Frank to leave her medicine on the bedside table then instructed him to go out for a walk. Jean committed suicide at her home in Skipdale on Christmas Eve 1984.
On Linda Glover's wedding day in December 1996, Zoe gifted Linda a brooch that belonged to Jean as she didn't believe she would have any children of her own to pass it down to. However in January 2003, Zoe gave birth to a daughter whom she named Jean after her mother.
