John Tuplin was an NY Estates employee who lived in Pear Tree Cottage between 1980 and 1984. John Tuplin was married to Mary Tuplin, with whom he had 4 children. In October 1980, John had money worries due to a rise on his tax fee on his wages. He started getting drunk and causing havoc at NY and at The Woolpack. In the end, a 5% pay rise was agreed, to protect the NY Estate employees. In 1981, John's boss Richard Anstey, was fired with Joe Sugden serving as a temporary replacement until Alan Turner was moved to Beckindale in 1982. John and Alan clashed often, as Alan did with all of his employees. The following year, Alan asked John and his co workers to clear out the building waste and rubble from a local dingle. John felt he was a pig man, not a navvy so he and the other employees rebelled against Alan. Alan threatened to dismiss John, Daniel Hawkins and Jock MacDonald if they did not comply. An arrangement was soon made with the help of Joe. John left NY Estates in June 1984.
