Leeds is the largest city in the county of West Yorkshire. Once a major industrial centre, the city today is more well known for being the largest financial centre in the UK outside of London, as well as for its impressive shopping, nightlife, universities and sports facilities. Leeds also has a growing cultural reputation, being home to many museums, restaurants and theatres, and a mixture of Georgian, Victorian, 20th and 21st century architecture.
In Emmerdale[]
In Emmerdale, Leeds is a city near the village of Emmerdale, occasionally visited by residents. Ryan Stocks was said to live in the city with his mother Irene Stocks before he moved into Tall Trees Cottage in 2021.

- 24th November 1950 - Gloria Weaver is born in Leeds.
- 12th April 1957 - Terry Woods is born in Leeds.
- 21st November 1972 - The Merrick family left Beckindale fo Leeds. Ruth Merrick returned briefly in January 1974 to see her sister Janie Blakey but soon decided to return to Leeds.
- 16th February 1976 - PC Will Croft had moved to Beckindale to take over as the village bobby from Fred Hallam after previously been given a reprimand while stationed in Leeds so upon his arrival in Beckindale he adopted a rigid policing approach.
- 8th July 1980 - Ruth, now calling herself Pat returned to Beckindale with her children Jackie and Sandie after she left Tom for good.
- 16th October 1984 - Tom Merrick is sentenced to time in Armley Jail.
- April 1986 - After admitting to the murder of Harry Howlam, Derek Warner was sentenced to serve time in Armley Jail.
- 13th July 1988 - Nick Bates meets sister Helen Sutcliffe while in Leeds where she and her sister Clare originally lived before coming to Emmerdale.
- 1991 - Rachel Hughes starts studying at Leeds University and moves there to not have to commute.
- October 1991 - After getting a taste of Rachel's life in Leeds, Elsa Feldmann tells her partner Nick she wants to move there but he refuses.
- 7th November 1991 - Elsa Feldmann decides to move to Leeds with hers and Nick Bates' daughter Alice.
- 24th December 1991 - Elsa moves to Leeds permanently but leaves Alice with Nick.
- March 1992 - Chris Tate's friend Alex moves in with him after getting relocated to Leeds in his commercial estate agency job.
- 1993 - After discovering her sexuality, Zoe Tate spends a lot of time in Leeds with her new friend Richard, going to clubs and meeting people. She befriends and briefly dates Jude Clayton in Leeds.
- 1995 - Zoe Tate starts dating Emma Nightingale who lives in Leeds and asks her to move there for her. However, Zoe decides she can't because of her job but asks Emma to come to Emmerdale instead.
- 9th April 1996 - Roy Glover is taken to a hospital in Leeds where they are specialists in microsurgery after losing a couple of fingers in a sawing accident.
- May 2000 - Charity Dingle returns to Emmerdale, fleeing from Leeds where there's a warrant out for her arrest.
- 18th August 2002 - Chris Tate has scans taken at Leeds Royal Hospital and is told he has a brain tumour.
- October 2004 - Pearl Ladderbanks' son Frank Bernard Hartbourne moved to Leeds after realising his presence in the village was harming his mother.
- 20th August 2006 - Pearl is revealed to be working at a pub in Leeds under the pseudonym of Irene, after fleeing the village two months prior due to her debts.
- 21st August 2006 - Pearl runs into Daz Eden, bruised and running away from his mum and her boyfriend, in Leeds and they agree to return to the village together.
- August 2012 - After getting Rachel Breckle pregnant and convincing her to keep the baby, Jai Sharma arranged a flat for Rachel to live in Leeds for her and the baby but she got homesick and soon returned.
- 23rd October 2014 - James Barton receives words his son Ross has been spotted in Leeds after her left the village a month prior.
- 30th October 2014 - Ruby Haswell decides to leave the village for Leeds. However, she soon returns.
- 12th July 2018 - A doctor looked after Matty Barton after he was taken to hospital in Leeds following a mugging.
- January 2020 - After being released early from prison Pierce Harris takes up residence in a flat in Leeds before being sent back to prison for murder and kidnap.
Real-life usage in Emmerdale[]
It is also frequently used as a filming location. The first known episode using Leeds for locations filming being Episode 64 (29th May 1973) when Joe Sugden and Penny Golightly went shopping for motorcycles in the city.
The vast majority of in-doors scenes in Emmerdale has been filmed in The Leeds Studios since the show's inception in 1972 to 1989 and again from 2011 to date. The street and buildings of Leeds are often used for location filming in the show.
All exterior scenes of Butlers Farm are also filmed at Brooklands Farm in the village of Eccup, on the outskirts of the city.
