View of Leeds in Episode 7935

Leeds is the largest city in the county of West Yorkshire. Once a major industrial centre, the city today is more well known for being the largest financial centre in the UK outside of London, as well as for its impressive shopping, nightlife, universities and sports facilities. Leeds also has a growing cultural reputation, being home to many museums, restaurants and theatres, and a mixture of Georgian, Victorian, 20th and 21st century architecture.

In Emmerdale, Leeds is a city near the village of Emmerdale, occasionally visited by residents. Ryan Stocks was said to live in the city with his mother Irene Stocks before he moved into Tall Trees Cottage in 2021.

Real-life usage in Emmerdale[]

It is also frequently used as a filming location. The first known episode using Leeds for locations filming being Episode 64 (29th May 1973) when Joe Sugden and Penny Golightly went shopping for motorcycles in the city.

The vast majority of in-doors scenes in Emmerdale has been filmed in The Leeds Studios since the show's inception in 1972 to 1989 and again from 2011 to date. The street and buildings of Leeds are often used for location filming in the show.

All exterior scenes of Butlers Farm are also filmed at Brooklands Farm in the village of Eccup, on the outskirts of the city.
