Lindley Farm was the location used for the exterior scenes of the original Emmerdale Farm land between 1972 and 1994. Lindley Farm belonged to Farnley Estates and when its tenant farmer Arthur Peel retired in 1993, the new occupiers of the farm would not allow filming to continue there, so the shows main characters were moved to a different farm eight miles away.
Since 1998 the series has been mostly filmed on the Harewood House estate. In 1996, a developer bought Lindley House and the barns behind. He renovated it and turned the barns into six separate living units, fenced off from the main house.
The farmhouse was put on the market in 2009.
