London is the capital both of England and the United Kingdom. Its population of almost eight million people makes it by a considerable margin the largest city in the UK and in terms of its municipal area it is also the largest city in Europe.
Numerous characters have either visited the city or have moved from there and several episodes have been filmed on location there.
Emmerdale history[]
By 1972, Jack Sugden had been living in London for 8 years, having moved there from Beckindale in 1964. Jack return to his home village after the death of his father, Jacob Sugden.
In late 1975, Madge Semple also returned to Beckindale after years living in "The Smoke" while she was being rehoused from her old flat in New Cross, South London. She was given a new flat and soon returned to London.
The following year, Vic and Scott returned with Scott's mother, Viv Windsor to undergo a treasure hunt following a letter from Scott's recently deceased biological father, Reg Dawson. Location filming took place in Picadilly Circus and Bethnal Green.
In 1998, Kelly Windsor returned to London, bringing Chris Tate with her, in order to find Carol Trkulja to find the truth about Kelly's mother Anne Windsor's death and visit her grave.
In 2004, after getting married, Andy and Katie Sugden went to London for their honeymoon.
In 2023, Priya Kotecha moved to London with her daughter Amba Metcalfe after accepting a job offer there. Later that year, Amba's dad David Metcalfe left the village with his son Theo Metcalfe and moved to London to be with Amba.
