Manchester is a city and metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester. It was the world's first industrialised city and has held city status since 1853. It had a population of 552,000 in the 2021 census.

Emmerdale history[]
- In November 1974, Henry leaves to pick Annie up from Manchester after her trip to Rome.
- Kathy tells Jim that Kenny has moved from Hotten after getting a job in Manchester in December 1974.
- P.C. Edwards informs Annie that her car has been found in Manchester but there is still no sign of Steve and Pip in May 1978.
- In March 1979, Simon Madden leaves for Manchester again, he tells Joe that he is welcome to come to stay if he wants to.
- In June 1987, Eric goes to see Paolo, who has returned from Manchester, with some books he's obtained for him. Paolo is uninterested, saying that he does not like his time wasted, and that the books Eric has are worthless. Paolo then tells him to leave. Eric seethes and pockets a key to the house on his way out.
- In August 1995, Linda is still going on her trip to Amsterdam. She leaves a phone number with Ned - supposedly for her friend Sandra where she is meant to be staying in Manchester.
- In February 1997, Sophie interrupts Frank and Chris to show Frank a letter that she has found in the nursery; is confirmation of a hotel booking near Manchester Airport for Kim and James for last night. Frank orders Sophie not to leave James alone with Kim if she comes back. He tears up the letter.
- After tracking Frankie down and arriving at Wright's Haulage in Manchester, Zoe asks Frankie some questions in January 2000.
- Andy Sugden gets an unexpected call from the Manchester police saying that Daz has been caught joyriding in November 2003.
- In November 2004, Sydney decides to take the job in Manchester. Before leaving he bids farewell before leaving he bids farewell to Edna Birch and while walking past Scott he spits on his shoes in response to Scott's behaviour. Syd then says a tearful farewell to Chas before leaving in his van.
- In June 2013, Robbie tells Megan that he's going to see a mate in Manchester for a while.
- Zak, Chas and Charity try to make Lisa face up to the reality that they can't afford to send Belle to the home in Manchester in September 2016.
- In November 2019, Gabby helps Dee Dee and Bernice pack as they intend to be on the last flight out of Manchester.
- In May 2025, Joe tries to take Dawn out for some lunch but she tells him she has a meeting in Manchester for a revamp of a new penthouse that Kim has purchased.
- In October 2025, April and Dylan wait in Leeds for a bus to Manchester. They’re both bombarded with calls from Ray. Dylan tells April to block his number as he has. When April checks her phone, she’s horrified to find a video message from Ray subtly threatening Leo, Rhona, and Paddy unless they return with his cash.
