Mary Goskirk is the mother of Rhona Goskirk and grandmother of Leo Goskirk.
Rhona would occasionally visit her mother but she would rarely come to the village herself as she hated the countryside and therefore missed many important occasions.
In March 2022 Mary made a surprise visit to Emmerdale, inadvertently interrupting Rhona as she was attempting to propose to her boyfriend, Marlon Dingle. Rhona soon grew annoyed with her mother's constantly putting her down and avoiding explaining the reason for her visit. However, the two eventually had a heart-to-heart where Mary explained that she had grown lonely during the lock-downs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rhona eventually also told Mary about her plans to propose to Marlon and despite intending to leave, she decided to stay longer after believing Rhona wanted her there for Marlon's surprise birthday party, during which she planned to propose. Although both Rhona and Marlon had grown annoyed with Mary and were secretly disappointed when she announced she would be staying.
Within Mary's first weeks in the village Marlon took a stroke, so Mary decided it was best to stay in the village to support Rhona, Marlon, Leo and April. A few weeks after Marlon returned home, Mary began to grow close to Kim Tate. Eventually, during a conversation at Home Farm, Mary admitted that she was gay. She opened up about her sexuality, and Kim was quick to support her. The next day, she told Rhona. Rhona was initially shocked by the revelation, and felt betrayed by her mother, feeling like Mary forced her to live a lie, along with Barry, Rhona's father.
