Hi MrThermomanPreacher! I'm SilverFlight, this wiki's Wiki Manager. I am around to help the wiki as liaison to full-time Fandom staff. If you ever have a question or issue relating to the wiki, editing, etc., please contact me on my message wall and I'll get back to you as soon as possible!
In addition, I'm happy to inform you that Fandom is upgrading its MediaWiki platform to accommodate MediaWiki extensions. You can read more about here on the blog post.
I personally think giving the character's pets surnames like 'Tootsie Birch' and 'Alfie Dingle' isn't a great idea.
Is Tootsie still Tootsie Birch now that Edna is dead and Pearl and Harriet are caring for her? What if a couple with different surnames gets a pet, whose surname does the pet get? If the character that owns the pet changes their surname does the dog's change too?
By legal records I mean adoption records, here they keep a record of owners and dogs, and give them a tag with a number on it so if the dog is lost, the person who finds them can ring the council and give them the number, and they know who owns the dog.
Equal ownership is where it'd get tricky - no idea how to approach that.
But I think the best reason to have these is so if a dog named Steve appears in the future, we don't have to use pipelinks and it makes it easier for new viewers who may know the owner's last name that Steve Hart was Lydia's bird and Steve Tate (for example) is Joe's dog.
Hi MrThermomanPreacher! I'm Mike with FANDOM's Community Development Team. I would like to offer the Emmerdale Wiki a spiff -- that is, a redesign and reorganization of the main page. This can include a new wordmark, custom headers, background, etc.
Of course, everything would only be done with approval, so you have full control over any changes. I would design a proposed new look on a sandbox for you to see. I would also look to updating the Mobile Main Page.
The other thing I would like to propose is enabling the Discussions feature and migrating your existing forums across to the new feature. In case you are unaware, Discussions was introduced to help communities engage with users and fans. It lives in its own space on the wiki and allows users to interact with other members of the community. It is also mobile friendly, and gives mobile users a chance to contribute and engage with the community, and possibly turn them into wiki editors as well. You can read more about Discussions here.
For more information on migrating forums to Discussions, you can check out this blog over on Community Central that explains everything in detail.
If you have some concerns, Discussions and Forums can exist side-by-side in case you do not want to migrate just yet. However, eventually all Forums will be migrated over to Discussions, so getting ahead of the curve is never a bad idea.
Let me know what you think, and if you want to proceed I can get the ball rolling.
