Mike Anderson was a client of Robert Sugden who considered signing a contract with his haulage company, Home James Haulage, and an old acquaintance of Charity Dingle.
In March 2019, Robert brought Mike to The Woolpack. Charity recognised him from her Tate Haulage days and warned that Robert better be on his A-game as Mike takes a bit of handling. After Robert made a quip about Charity doing better, Charity approached Mike and managed to sweet talk him much to Robert's amazement. Robert believed Charity could be an asset to Home James Haulage and struck up a deal with her to help secure the contract with Mike for 15% of the profit.
The next day, Mike arrived at the pub for his meeting with Charity. As the meeting went on, Charity struggled to get anywhere with Mike, who asked for figures and information about existing clients. He then asked her to accompany him to the Sustainability Awards, after establishing Charity didn't have a "fella". However, she failed to mention she has a fiancee, Vanessa Woodfield, who grew more and more frustrated with Charity's flirtatious tactics. Charity agreed but when Mike leaned in for a kiss she quickly reached for her glass. At the Awards, Vanessa overheard Mike telling an acquaintance how Charity got one over on him back in the day and thought he didn't notice, so he had spun her a tale about giving her a haulage contract and got her to hand over lots of information about Home James Haulage. He explained that he was starting his own logistics company so he got to repay an old favour and with a bit of luck get rid of the competition. Vanessa informed Charity what she had just heard and Charity vowed to kill Mike but Vanessa insisted they were going to be cleverer than that. Vanessa then got her hands on Mike's car keys and searched his car for the files. However, when she spotted Mike approaching she panicked and speeded away in his car, later running it into a field.
Vanessa, Robert and Robert's husband Aaron Dingle, managed to get the car back and retrieve the files, however, Mike caught them attempting to return his mud-covered car to his house. Aaron then accidentally let slip that Vanessa is a vet, and Mike insisted they were going to regret this. The next day, Mike came to see Vanessa as she was heading off to work and asked if she was a good vet. She later revealed Mike races dogs and needed a vet on call. She was also forced to admit she had agreed to look after his 12 dogs for free indefinitely.
