Nathaniel "Nat" Dingle was the eldest brother of Mick and Levi Dingle. He also had two sisters, and was the husband of Molly Dingle. Nat was infuriated to learn that Mick had decided to enlist in the war as his girlfriend refused to be seen with a "coward", and that Levi also enlisted because of Mick. Nat felt forced to enlist too, but was reluctant as his wife Molly was expecting a child with Nat. Regardless, he and his brothers left Ireland for England, residing temporarily in Beckindale.
As apart of their promise to their mother before she died in 1914 to look after Levi (who lied about his age to enlist in the war), Nat and Mick planned to prevent him from fighting. Mick distracted him whilst Nat shot him in the leg, leaving him with permanent injuries. Mick forced Levi to lie so Nat wouldn't go to prison, to which Levi agreed, although he began to develop a grudge against his brothers.
Nat was killed in the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
