Biography[]
1947-1994: Early life[]
Edward Glover was born on the 4th September 1947. Known as Ned, he was childhood friends with Jack Sugden. Ned used to drink in The old Woolpack as a young man. Ned married Jan on the 10th October 1971 and they had three children, David in 1973, Linda in 1977 and Roy in 1980.
1994-2000: Life in Emmerdale[]
In August 1994, Ned bought a farm in Emmerdale, and got chatting to Joe Sugden. Ned had known the Sugden family for years and helped them out on their farm, indicating that he had lived in the village before. In October 1994, he was challenged by his old adversary Zak Dingle to a bare-knuckle fist fight and won. In February 1997, nasty Chris Tate made sexual adavnces on Linda and tried to rape her, so Ned held him hostage but was talked out of it. Jan left the village in 1998 after she and Ned split up, with Ned following a year later. By the time he originally left the village in 1999, he had already lost two of his three children, Dave in a fire at Home Farm in December 1996 and Linda in a car crash in October 1997. This had caused his marriage breakdown. In January 1999, Ned left the village to run a bar in Ibiza with an old girlfriend, Dawn Wilkins. Roy stayed in Emmerdale, and Ned returned for his wedding to Kelly Windsor. Ned returned again in July 2000 for his son Roy's leaving storyline. Ned comes back to the village to celebrate his 53rd birthday. He offers Roy and his wife Kelly the chance to go back to Ibiza with him. They delightedly accept; however, Roy discovers Kelly is planning to force Ned and Dawn out of the bar. He ends his marriage and goes to Ibiza alone, leaving Emmerdale for the last time.
