Paul Ashdale was the fiancé of Mandy Dingle and father of Vinny Dingle.
Biography[]
Background[]
Paul had a relationship with Tina Dingle and she fell pregnant with his child. However, Tina abandoned Vinny and Paul when Vinny was 9-months-old, and asked her cousin Mandy to take care of them. Paul and Mandy clicked instantly and they got together and by the end of the week, she moved in with him and Vinny. Initially, they were happy but then Paul got himself into a mess which escalated until one day in around 2005 he left them, only two days after Vinny started school, and never came back. Mandy continued to raise Vinny and became a mother to him.
2020-2021: Arrival in Emmerdale[]
Paul turned up in Emmerdale in April 2020, wanting to see his son. However, Mandy found him first and she lied, telling him Vinny wasn't there. He gave her his number and address in case Vinny would get in touch and insisted he was a changed man. Paul later realised that Mandy had lied, so got a job at Holey Scrap, befriending Vinny and eventually revealing to him that he was his dad.
Eventually, Paul and Mandy got back together again, but Paul soon started gambling again and began physically and emotionally abusing Vinny in order to hide his gambling from Mandy. In January 2021, Paul was beaten up by Connor Chapman, who he owed money to. He then faked a kidnapping in order to get the ransom money from Vinny to pay off his debts to Connor. When Vinny discovered this scheme, Paul beat Vinny again and believed that he had killed Vinny for a few moments until Vinny woke up. He later forced Vinny to break up with his girlfriend, Liv Flahearty as she was getting suspicious of him. Paul eventually proposed to Mandy and she agreed to marry him.
