Paula was the girlfriend of Nick Bates and the mother of Jason. Nick and Paula met at The Woolpack re-opening in February 1995 but whilst returning home they accidentally woke up Nick's daughter Alice. Nick was relieved when Paula revealed she is also a parent. Nick and Paula later had a drink together in The Woolpack and decided to arrange a family day out. In March 1995, on a family day out to the beach, they ended up getting trapped by the tides whilst walking through the caves. They were eventually rescued by a coastguard and the incident brought them closer together. Paula was annoyed when Biff Fowler stayed with them in June 1995, and also that month, Paula met Nick's mother Caroline. Paula began complaining about everything and Nick found it too much, dumping her.
