Sally Barraclough was the daughter of Mary Barraclough. In March 1983, Mary's friend Dolly Skilbeck was in two minds about whether she should get her son Samuel immunised. Dolly told her husband Matt that Mary refused to get her daughter Sally immunised, to which remarked that Sally will be the one getting whooping cough for up to two months.
