Sir Gerald Scott is the father of Doctor Clare Scott. He arrived in Beckindale while on business in May 1973 and questioned his daughter on why she was working in Beckindale as a general practitioner. Sir Gerald appeared to shun his working class roots as his dad was a mill worker in Shipley. Clare reminded her father of his own father's working class roots. She said she was happy as just a GP and not a specialist. Sir Gerald was pleased to hear that Clare's predecessor at Beckindale surgery was Dr Maurice Grant, a man who taught Sir Gerald at medical college 35 years earlier. Once his daughter said she was happy as a mere GP, Gerald then left the village.
