Steven Richard "Steve" Marshal was a criminal who friended Michael Feldmann when Michael fell into the wrong crowd. He introduced Michael to his friends William Moody and James Cartmell, and the group burgled Home Farm in September 1992. During the robbery, Joe Sugden arrived to the house early and the pair hid. Steve snuck behind Joe and knocked him unconscious before fleeing. Michael confessed to Eric Pollard who set up Steve. The police also ended up arresting William, James and Michael. Steve was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment along with William and James, whereas Michael received 4 months.
