Ted Sharp was the friend of Dolly Skilbeck. Dolly had split from her husband Matt Skilbeck when Dolly had an affair with Stephen Fuller. When Steven was killed in 1988, Dolly and Ted met a few months later. Ted fell for Dolly and thought she reciprocated his feelings, but she put him straight. Ted got angry and kidnapped her. He began to worry that Dolly may go to the police afterwards and refused to let her go, but Dolly managed to convince him that she would keep quiet about the whole ordeal if he let her go, which she did.
