Violet Verney, Lady Miffield was the second wife of Lord Miffield. Lord Miffield met Violet, thirty years his junior, following the death of his first wife. The pair got quickly engaged and married, and in the early 1910s, Violet gave birth to a son named George, then a daughter Marjorie and another son. Violet approved of her step-son Ralph's relationship with Maggie Sugden, but they continued their relationship regardless. Miffield Hall was requisitioned and set up to be a hospital in during World War I, so Violet and her butler moved to the London house.
