Wilson was a man who attended an auction at the Hotten Cattle Market in November 1987. Wilson shouted at Sandie Merrick (who was holding the auction) and got a telling off from Jack Sugden. Wilson asked if he thought it was alright to replace the cattle market with a supermarket. Wilson kept protesting and Sandie tried to get him to shut up. Eric Pollard told Sandie that Wilson did need some kind of answer, and Wilson thanked him. Sandie's brother Jackie Merrick began getting wound up by Wilson's sexist remarks towards Sandie and was prepared to use his fists. Wilson made a short speech, declaring that Arthur Golding should have never let NY Estates purchase the Cattle Market and walked out to the sounds of applause.
